Individual therapy
Initial session
The first session (or two) lasts 55-minutes and is focused on getting to know you. I will gather information about your past, the problems you are experiencing currently, and your goals for therapy. We will discuss what it might be like to work together and decide whether I am the right therapist for you.
Ongoing sessions
Ongoing sessions are 55 minutes and usually occur once a week. As you reach your therapy goals we will discuss meeting less frequently in order to maintain progress. We will work together to find the right level of support to meet your needs.
LGBTQ+ affirming care
Not everyone fits neatly into the traditional gender and sexuality categories that society has created. I work with individuals who identify across the LGBTQ+ spectrum. You will find my office to be a safe space where the unique stresses and challenges faced by members of the LGBTQ+ community are understood. I have helped clients with issues such as:
-
Coming out
-
Self-acceptance
-
Family conflicts
-
Dating and relationships
-
Dealing with discrimination
-
Reconciling religious or spiritual beliefs
Gender-affirming care
Trans and gender diverse identities are particularly stressful for many people, especially in today's political climate. I am here to hold space for you to explore questions about gender and make choices about live most authentically as yourself. Transition can be overwhelmed and fraught with challenges. It is my honor to facilitate that process by providing the following:
-
Information and resources
-
Referrals to gender-affirming specialists
-
Letters of support for medical services
-
Collaborative care with you and your other providers
I have worked with clients throughout transition and recognize the importance of a team approach in order for individuals to feel supported throughout their journey. I practice within an informed consent model for adults, guided by recommendations from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). I am an active member of Charlotte Trans Health for 10+ years.
Trauma-informed care
Stressful events and PTSD
Nearly everyone has a traumatic event at some point in their life, or has experienced the ongoing trauma of chronic stressors such as abuse, systemic oppression, or having a marginalized identity. Whether you have PTSD or are struggling with another type of traumatic experience or loss, I will help you develop tools for coping and insights for healing. I am trained in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Many clients have found peace of mind through the use of EMDR, which allows the brain to reprocess traumatic memories and store them in a way that is more helpful.
