INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
Individual counseling consists of one-on-one therapy sessions. Sessions are 55 minutes in length, and generally occur weekly. Some people find they are able to reach their goals in just a few sessions, while others benefit from long-term, ongoing therapy. The length of each session and the total number of sessions is something client and counselor decide together depending on the client’s needs, goals, and circumstances.
Examples of common goals for individual therapy are:
- Increase ability to cope with stress
- Improve mood and outlook on life
- Adjust to recent change or stressful event
- Improve communication skills for handling conflict
- Decrease social anxiety
- Come to terms with recent death of a loved one
- Cope with a breakup
- Develop healthy relationship behaviors
